We are kicking off 2022 with the first in a series of Project Showcases lined up for the year.

Prior to it's redevelopment Ken Rosewall Arena was suffering from excessive sun exposure and overheating making the facility extremely uncomfortable during the summer tennis season and other sporting fixtures.

The new and innovative cable-tension structure and PTFE fabric design roof membrane designed by COX Architecture, required a low weight fan option, that also provided high performance but non turbulent airflow cooling so it did not impact play. Arup Consulting Engineers contacted Airius and we undertook a rigorous design process which has achieved amazing results.

The project had a tight deadline and was delivered just in time for the inaugural ATP Cup Event and the Sydney Tennis Classic - the start of the Australian Tennis Season. It has also become the new home for the NSW Swifts and NSW Giants Netball teams.

The multi-award winning project was amongst the winners of The World Architecture Awards for 2021 and received Best Sporting Venue ($10M-$50M) at the prestigious Master Builders Association 2020 Excellence in Construction Awards.

Thermal Comfort for Players & Spectators

The Airius Diamond G560 Airflow Systems were placed above the stands to provide thermal comfort on the courts both for tennis and for the field of play during shoulder season Netball games and our smaller Onyx systems were installed to provide cooling airflow for spectators.

Project Director for KRA, John Ferendinos said, “The redevelopment of Ken Rosewall Arena transformed the original facility through a unique cable stayed fabric roof. This improves thermal comfort for spectators and players, and extends the life and Olympic legacy of the venue”.
